june '24 media log
Aug. 20th, 2024 06:06 pm hi all i have disappeared but now i am back. trying to Write More starts small! like filling out silly little entries on dw.
Here's a roundup of the media (videogames lol) that i have enjoyed over the past month:
Videogames:
Elden Ring:
I actually bought this during last year's...Steam Winter Sale I believe? and I never really got into it. even got to a point where I downloaded some garbage ELDEN RING MADE EASY mod off of Nexus, and (rightfully) went "wait, i don't think this is supposed to be played like a DMC-like hack and slash."
I think, funnily enough, playing it on the Steam Deck instead of being hunched over at my desk really made it work! I just Persevered (as miyazaki would've wanted me to) and found that it was really for me. I'll probably come back to this post and edit it with a screenshot of my current level and in-game build:

There are so many things that I just adore about this game. The lore is wonderful, of course--i've found that i really enjoyed listening to elden ring lore videos while i go about my day. The setting is fantastic as well--that miyazaki x grrm crossover works on every single level. I've always wanted a dark fantasy/cosmic horror and the ability to Defeat God in a game and i'm glad i got it!
Regarding the gameplay--there's nothing like finally getting why people adore fromsoft's combat. It's so, so, so rewarding to learn an enemy/boss' moveset and figuring out how to defeat it yourself (fuck the npc questlines though, miyazaki i'm begging you for a JOURNAL or a LOGBOOK at the very least). Overall, i cannot overstate how much i've enjoyed playing elden ring--and i've only just reached Leyndell.
Duck Detective: The Secret Salami
Funny, funny, funny little game. I think I completed it in under 2 hours? [IGN Reviewer voice] This game absolutely oozes with charm. Definitely laughed irl and/or exhaled through my nose a couple of times. It's fully voice-acted too, which was a pleasant surprise.
You play as a Duck...Detective, solving the case of stolen salami at an office, and discover....so much more.
What was really fun was the studio's clear homage to noir films, despite the game being set in modern day, with a cast of, you know, talking animals.
Persona 3: Reloaded
Loved P3 on the PSP, and replayed quite a bit of it during the pandemic before stopping due to the fact that, well, the gameplay is kinda outdated by now. P3R definitely fixed a lot of gameplay issues!
I'm still sad that they decided to gut fem!mc for no real reason other than, like, not being bothered to and/or sexism tbh, but it's still a fun game. Definitely a step down in terms of density in comparison to Persona 5, obviously, but personally I couldn't get into Persona 5 due to the fact that the majority of the game deals with,,, certain topics. Which is a shame! because I really liked the gameplay.
It's a Persona game, so you will be a Mary Sue High Schooler, but, like, sometimes you just wanna play as a Mary Sue High Schooler.

Absolutely insane. He's magnetic in real life, super funny, super correct with his [REDACTED CITY]'s culinary opinions.
end thoughts:
I definitely need to read more--I've been in a reading slump for a while now, which is definitely making me not write much, and to be honest, writing this entry took out a lot from me. but I'm glad I wrote something, even if it's just for dw!
thanks for reading x
